Crazy Commute Month

11th March 2024

Crazy Commute -   Monday 11th March – Thursday 28th March

We will be running a ‘Crazy Commute’ to school from Monday 11th March – Thursday 28th March.  This will be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to think about how they can fit cycling into daily school life and celebrate pedal power.

During this time, we would like to encourage our school community to either ride, scoot or walk to school. The aim is to promote active travel and to foster sustainable habits among school children. Spot prizes will also be awarded throughout our Crazy Commute event!

In class, the children will be looking at road safety, negotiating traffic and safely using different crossings.

Events

Monday 11th March – Poetry and colouring competitions

Nursey, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 can enter the colouring competition.

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can enter the poetry competition.

Please collect entry forms from the School Office.

Friday 15th March – Decorate your bike/scooter day

We will be looking for the craziest and most colourful creation! Please remember that your bike/scooter will still need to be ridden safely with no obstructions to wheels, handlebars, or brakes. Prizes will be given out during assembly.

Tuesday 19th March – Crazy Commute lunch

There will be a special themed lunch menu on this day.

“Bicycle Bell” Cheeseburgers/Cheese Wheel, with “Pedal” Veg (Peas & Sweetcorn).

“Spoke” Fries/” Saddle” Cheese Roll, Traffic Light Biscuit.

Friday 22nd March – The Wheely Big Breakfast

Children who ride or scoot to school will receive a bacon bap for breakfast between 8.00am-8.30am kindly provided by the PTA. Children must remain with their adult/carer until the school gates open.

Tuesday 26th March

To celebrate our ‘Crazy Commute’ events, we are inviting Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 children, who are competent bike

riders, to join us on a bike ride via the Tarka Trail to Rock Park. Once there, we will enjoy our own packed lunches and return to school.

We are looking forward to the next step in our sustainable journey!
